Reticulated Polyurethane Foam

Reticulated Polyurethane Foam

From vehicle emissions to household garbage and unclean water runoff, nearly every activity leaves behind some kind of waste. Improve air and water cleanliness while reducing equipment maintenance and operating costs with high-performance filtration foam by Foamcraft USA.

Filtration foam is a versatile open-cell material that is lightweight, low odor and is highly resistant to mildew. Often called reticulated polyurethane foam or low-density polyurethane foam, this material family has strong chemical resistance, tensile strength, elongation, and anti-tear characteristics.

Filtration Foam Applications:

With an open-air design, reticulated polyurethane foam is ideal for holding materials or acting as a reservoir, transporting or carrying liquids, releasing or applying ingredients, and picking up or wiping residue.

Common uses of reticulated polyurethane foam include:

  • medical device liquid delivery parts
  • automobile sound absorption components
  • cosmetic product applicators
  • air conditioning filters
  • sponges

Filtration Foam Manufacturing Process

Reticulated polyurethane foam is manufactured by removing cell membranes through one of two methods in the polyurethane manufacturing process. The first method is chemical etching or quenching, which dissolves window membranes to leave a skeletal structure by running a foam loaf through a caustic bath. The second method is thermal reticulation or zapping, which uses a controlled flame to melt membranes while leaving the skeletal structure intact.

When designing a custom component or product, the correct reticulated foam porosity is vital. Let us know your objectives and requirements, and our knowledgeable team will help identify, engineer, and fabricate the best filtration foam solution to meet your needs.

Working with Foamcraft USA
